• Do you have a FaceBook Fan Page?
• Do you have any tips for making the most out of a fan page?
• What are some of your favorite pages?
Some of my favorite pages are:
A FaceBook Fan Page allows you to update and interact with “fans” while keeping your personal profile private.
CREATE
When you are ready to create a Fan Page, visit FaceBook’s Create A Page.
Complete the fields.
PICTURE
Your Fan Page picture can safely be 200 pixels wide by 600 pixels long.
THUMBNAIL
Once uploaded, set your thumbnail pic by selecting the pencil icon on the upper right corner of your main page photo.
OPTIONAL STEP:
Fan Pages can have a landing page. A landing page is the first page visitors see.
To insert jpgs and/or links on your landing page, you will need to install Static FBML. This FB application allows html to work on your page(s).
From your main fan page, choose, “Edit Page”. Scroll down to, “More Applications”, and click, “Choose More”. Search the Apps for Static FBML. Here is the direct link: Static FBML. Click, “Add To Page”.
Your fan page will now have a new tab titled, “FMBL+”. From your main fan page, again select, “Edit Page”. Static FBML will now have it’s own place under Apps.
Choose, “edit” to rename the tab and insert your html.
I named my tab, “Welcome”, and created a landing page jpg that is 757 pixels x 522 pixels. I chose not to link it to my website so I would not redirect potential fans as soon as they had found my page.
As an added note, when I hosted my landing page jpg at Photobucket, the html did not work, and my image was a broken link. After much frustration, I uploaded the jpg to my wordpress site (under Media), and the link did work.
WALL SETTINGS
Return once again to the main page of your fan page, and select, “Edit Page”. Time to edit your wall settings. Here you can choose your landing page, and select whether fans can post videos, photos or links.
PROMOTE
Now you are ready to promote your fan page. From your main fan page, you can share the link to your personal profile, or suggest to friends.
Create your Fan Page Badge to display on your website. From your main page/edit page, “Promote With FaceBook” badge is in the right column. Insert the html on your website.
UPDATES
Use the Networked Blogs app. to automatically post links to your latest blog.
URL
Once you have 25 fans, you can change the url of your page to something more personalized. Find that setting here; scroll to the bottom, and Set A User Name for your pages.
I don’t have one. I wouldn’t make one I guess. I usually just to to FB to play the farm games and check up on people. I do have a few pages but I couldn’t tell you why I have them. I never go there.
I get so hooked on the games, Joy. I just deleted a bunch of them though, and only kept Fairyland.
I did have a Just Kate fan page for a week or two but I deleted it because I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the fact that fan pages are 100% public. Looking back, I wish I’d left it alone. I love the way the fan pages are oriented and I preferred the fan page over my regular Just Kate page. Before I try it again I have to decide if I can live with the public nature of it.
I understand, Kate. You are a private person, and understandably so.
Hey, you won a Tommy Bahama muddler! Get your blackberries and basils ready. 😀
Thanks! For some reason I thought I had to hit 50 fans. I just changed both my fan pages. Yay! Have a great weekend!
You’re welcome, Mommie Cooks! I’m your latest fan on FB. 🙂
This is really handy! Thank you so much for this info. 🙂 I’m hoping to use it in the future.
You’re welcome. I need to create a landing page for our business, so I’ll be referring back to it too!
Dennis and I both have fan pages on Facebook. Dennis’s is waaaaaay more popular than mine.
I joined Dennis’s fan page! He rocks!
Hi Jean, wow, great tutorial! I love having a FB fan page to compliment my blog. It’s another great way to interact with friends and fans, and also to spotlight inspiring posts from other bloggers.
Thank you so much for coming by for the SITS feature. It’s been a really wonderful Sunday morning! Hope yours has been lovely as well.
Jenn
Hi Jenn! It is so great to meet you. Thank you for coming by.
I looked up Rook No. 17 on FB and instantly hit “LIKE”. 🙂
My Sunday has been very nice too, thanks.
🙂 Once again you are the one to keep us all informed. I love all of the things you are doing. I do not know how you find the time. Hope you have a fun week. 🙂
Hi Luisa. Thank you!
I try to write about what interests me, and hope that it also resonates with my friends.
Speaking of friends…they got me sending them gifts daily on a stupid game about a farm. lol 🙂 NO, I WILL NOT PLAY IY. lol 🙂
I have a page but it’s on my to-do list to make a landing page for it as well. I have SO many to do-s, though! FB always seems to get short shrift after blogging and Twittering! Thanks for the kick in the pants, maybe I’ll get to it this week!
Gigi, you do have a lot on your plate, and you make it look easy, woman!
Any time you need a kick in the pants, you just say so. 🙂
Gigi – Just found your fan page, an I’m a fan.
i think i made one up for some guy aat the beach once but doesn’t it cost? i forget?
Hi Lynn. Fan Pages are free. Some Guy needs a fan page! 🙂
I have yet to really get into the FB fanpage thing. I have one, it just seems like one extra worky thing for me. I don’t know. Should I pay more attention to it?
I just wish there was a way to communicate with other people “as” your fanpage persona, y’know? I want to be able to talk to people as Crunchy Betty, and not Leslie, my personal FB.
Is there a way to do that? Have I missed it?
Hi Leslie – You can post status updates as your FB persona, from your FB main wall. Just be sure to “like” it or you won’t see what fans are commenting. LOL!
I just checked, and yes, when I reply on my wall, I’m the FB persona.
This is really cool! I have a fan page for my Scentsy site, but not one for my blog. Thanks for the tips, I wasn’t exactly sure how to customize it! Now I can fix my Scentsy page and make one for my blog!
Dev, post your Scentsy FB page link so I can “like” you. LOL!

there is my crazy long link to my fan page! haha
Just 2 more fans, Dev, and you can personalized your url! Yay!
Thank you for the link!
Aw, you have my page up!! Thank you sweetie!! I love your tutorials. You are so much more tech saavy than I am. I still have yet to try to to a vlog! I had no idea you could modify your FB fan page like that. Mine is still pretty basic.
Have you ever tried ads on Facebook? I’m curious if they are very effective.
Thanks for the linky love! xxx
You’re welcome, Kristin! And that link works! Tried my hand at html mapping.
We did try FB ads for our business. We did get “clicks” (it’s pay per click), and always used our daily budget. Not sure if it generated any real business though.
Just when I have been debating and debating on whether to do fan pages, you post this….hmmmmm. Is it a sign?
😀
Really liked all the info and detail you listed, maybe it won’t be so scary for me to begin.
Was considering a photography page and a blog fan page.
Would the photography be under brand, product, or organization? I’m not in business (wouldn’t mind if it turned into that though!).
You rock in your skillzzzz – love all that you share. 🙂
Angelia – yes, this post is talking to you! 🙂
A photography page and a blog page would both be good!
Hmmm… I’m not sure what category Photography would fall under.
Thank you!!!
I started to put my blog on Facebook, but then I got freaked out that it would actually lead people to my Facebook account, which isn’t as anonymous as my blog. So, my “friends” can access my blog on my profile, but I didn’t put a link to it anywhere else. I may be worried for no reason, but every once in a while, some really weird people try to “friend” me and that sends me over the edge again. To much technology!!!!
Kristen – I get some strange friend requests too, but oddly not since I set up the fan page.
I hate Facebook. It gave me a bad virus that nearly killed my computer. Plus I find it rather non-interesting
Tony, sounds like you and FB did not hit it off. I wonder how Flat Tony feels about it.
I recently opened a fan page but i am not entirely sure where to go with it.
It’s more to keep facebook friends in the know more than anything.
Richard, I think the FB fan pages will evolve, and we’ll be ready to see where it leads. 🙂 I like how you jump right in.
Thanks for the great info! Heather and I have this on our list of to do’s and this will be sooo helpful.
Hi Jasmine! I’m glad this is helpful. I just created my fan page, and wanted to share tips while it was still fresh in my mind. 🙂
Let me know when your fan page is up and running. I’ll be sure to “like”!
